There is another great deal out there that doesn’t receive the attention it deserves – the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer card. And for a limited time, receive a bonus offer of 50,000 miles plus an additional 5,000 by adding an authorized user. Here are the details:
- 50,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 in 3 months
- 5,000 additional miles when you add an authorized user
- 10,000 additional miles when you spend at least $25,000 in a calendar year
- $50 statement credit after first purchase
- $95 annual fee (first year waived)
- 2 miles per $1 spent at United, 1 mile per $1 spent everywhere else
- Free checked bag, priority boarding, two United Club passes
- No foreign transaction fees
- Approval difficulty: Hard (~700+ credit score with good income)
- Churn status: Moderate (can be reapplied after 24 months)
Pretty good, right? As I’ve mentioned in my Getting Started Guide, United Airlines is probably the best in terms of award availability. Say what you will about the airline itself, but if it allows me to consistently use miles to get me to my destination I’m a happy traveler. Now the tricky part – how to get the deal. There are three ways to get this offer, each of which is outlined below.
#1 - Try to get the offer to appear online
The folks at FlyerTalk have figured out a way to show the offer online. Step one is to go to the United Airlines website and log in to your account. Then, with your logged in window still open, click the following link to apply: Chase United MileagePlus Explorer. If it isn't showing up, try clearing your cookies and doing the above process once more. If you have Google Chrome installed, simply use an "Incognito" tab and do the process...a little easier than clearing cookies in some cases. If the offer is still not showing, it is time to go to #2.
#2 - Get the public offer and send a secure message for the rest
There have been multiple reports at FlyerTalk that this works. But, as always the case in the miles space, you can't know for sure. While I am comfortable recommending this as an option, you should determine if it is worth risking the extra miles not being granted by Chase. If that is a risk you aren't willing to take, there is always the option of route #3.
#3 - Just go into a branch and ask
If the offer does not show online and you are not comfortable that you'll receive the extra miles, the last option is to just walk into a branch and ask. Remember to ask for both the 50,000 bonus miles as well as the $50 statement credit. There have been multiple reports suggesting that this will work and I am comfortable recommending it (feel free to print the landing page above if that makes you feel better). The reason this is #3 is that going to a branch can be inconvenient for some and in-person applications can't be done during an App-O-Rama (where you submit several applications at once online). But if this is convenient, why not try?
And boom! You’re 55,000 miles closer to your dream destination. If you have a question, just comment below. I have included application links and information below.
